Anyway, after leaving three quarters of my luggage at a luggage storage service, I actually went to sleep at the airport. Half the people there who arrived on morning flights were doing it. Almost every seat was occupied and corners were taken over by sleeping bags. I actually managed to sleep decently well.
So... after that, it was off to a half day tour of Athens!
Basically, the main attraction of Athens, or what I got from the guidebooks would be to visit the sites of ancient cities (ie: looking at ruins). Decided to skip the Acropolis due to lack of time, but here's a picture I got of it in the distance when I went to the site of the Temple of Olympian Zeus.

And here's me at the archeological site of the Temple of the Olympian Zeus.

Yup... what's left are these 14 columns out of an original 100 plus. And form the photo, you can see that they are actually rather huge. This temple is thought to be the largest one that existed in that time.

Meanwhile, here's Hadrian Arch, just a gateway that the Emporer of Hadrian built.
Next, walked over to an Olympic site. I think this was the site where the ancient games were held and where throwing events were held during the 2004 Athens Olympics.

Basically, it is nothing much. Literally what you see is what you get. Makes me wonder if this is another white elephant because I don't see anyone there at all.

The full view of the stadium. By then, it was about midday and it was getting very hot. (I'm not even trying to use the word warm here). All I could think of was how the spectators survived the heat when they watched the Olympic Games back i n2004 without a roof over the stadium!

'Thank You' in Greek. I really wonder what those symbols mean...
After that, I took a bus tour, had lunch and headed off to Pireaus, the port at Athens to wait for my ferry to Rethymno, Crete where I spent the better part of my holiday...
