Crete... (26/07/07 - 29/07/07)

off to Crete! The largest of the Greek island.

Due to the insane heat, (I found out it was 40 deg when I got to the poer), I reached the port 2.5 hours before check-in and 4 hours before the ferry was supposed to leave. So, I settled into a 'air-conditioned' waiting area and basically just read the time away.

I managed to catch the sunset on board the ship to Crete. It was an overnight ferry that left Athens at 8pm. It had its own restaurants and lounges and stuff. SOmewhat similar to a cruise ship, only smaller.

Got myself a deck seat (since it was the cheapest), but they did have airconditioned rooms with seats as opposed to literally being on deck. I think I'm becoming quite adept at sleeping in an upright position. (Think overnight train rides, flights and now ferry)

Arrival at Rethymno at 530am! Oh ya.. and this ship also transport goods to the island as well, hence the truck. There is even a garage so that passengers can bring their cars over from the mainland.

So... I spent my first afternoon there sunning at the beach... Crete is basically a holiday destination for the sun, sea and sand.

Just a nice chill-out afternoon at the beach. The weather was much more bearable compared to Athens!

A shot of a shopping street in Rhythmno. Ya.. I really like weaving through these streets to look at the stuff they sell. Mainly accessories, products made from Olive wood and leather stuff.

I had a very relaxing time in Crete. Chilling, shopping and climbing (more in the next post). And before I knew it, it was time to take the ferry back to Athens...
